Hey! Wasn't That...?
OLTL…Nora Canoodling With Willy Wonka?
ONE LIFE TO LIVE’s Hillary B. Smith (Nora) is beloved as a
daytime vet, but back in the mid-90’s, she was a primetime star in the Gene
Wilder sitcom SOMETHING WILDER. What was it like playing Annie Bergman, the
funny-man’s wife? “I loved Gene and his [real-life wife] Karen [Boyer],” she
confides, adding, “And I got to work with wonderful people like Gregory Itzen,
who was the president last year on 24 and Jake Weber from MEDIUM. So we had
this great, great cast.” Oddly enough, Smith’s primetime job had a daytime
connection. “The director/executive producer was Barnet Kellman – I had worked
with him [while playing Margo] on AS THE WORLD TURNS,” she confides. How would
the actress compare her two careers? The working mom says that it all comes
down to the hours. “No, it wasn’t any harder doing comedy…but sometimes you
work a little later, except on Thursdays and Fridays when we did pre-shooting
and taping [respectively].” All in all, Smith sums up her time on SOMETHING
WILDER as one that was pretty tame. “It was such a wonderful, homey, wholesome
experience,” the actress recalls wistfully. “I loved it.”
