Soaps In Depth

The Good Life
Hillary B. Smith (Nora) has been around daytime long enough
to know just how much the medium offers actors. “It [gives us] a steady job and
an opportunity to act in storylines that in the other world, we would probably
have to audition for each one separately.” Another benefit she’s found is the
loyalty of viewers, who she notes often follow their favorite actors. Such was
the case for Smith, who went from AS THE WORLD TURNS (where she played Margo) to
ONE LIFE TO LIVE. “I have a loyal fan base, not necessarily because I’m so great
but because I stepped into a show with a built-in group of [followers].” The
actress has turned the connection she has with them into a force for good and is
thrilled when she can use her celebrity to help worthy causes. “It’s a wonderful
platform to be able to use to help raise money for things you believe in.”
